Provost Umphrey's Mark Sparks Named a 2013 Texas Super Lawyer

September 10, 2013 BEAUMONT, TX: Provost Umphrey Law Firm, L.L.P., attorney Mark Sparks has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers 2013 listing of the state's top lawyers in the International practice area. This prestigious list only includes 5 percent of lawyers in the state.

Board-certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Sparks is a veteran trial lawyer with more than 14 years of civil litigation experience. Sparks works on behalf of plaintiffs and foreign citizens against domestic and international chemical and transactional companies involved in major products liability disputes, general negligence, aviation accidents, corporate fraud, conversion, judgment enforcement, judgment collection and foreign litigation in jurisdictions in Asia, Europe and North, Central and South America.

Mark Sparks is licensed to practice in Texas, the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, Coushatta Tribal Court in the Coushatta Indian Nation and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits. He has appeared or argued before multiple Texas appellate courts, the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes of the World Bank, the Los Angeles Superior Court, the Second Appellate District of the State of California Court of Appeal, the U.S. District Court Western District of Michigan, the U.S. District Court Central District of California, the U.S. District Court Southern District of Florida, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Sparks has been recognized by Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, as a Texas Rising Star, the top up-and-coming attorneys in Texas, in 2006 and 2010 for personal injury and 2011 and 2012 for international litigation, was named one of the 2012 "Top 40 Under 40" Texas attorneys by the National Trial Lawyers and has earned the AV Preeminent® rating, Martindale-Hubbell's highest possible rating for both ethical standards and legal ability. He has also published numerous articles on subjects varying from procedural to evidentiary law, and speaks at CLE's.

Since 2005, Mark Sparks has annually volunteered as a High School Mock Trial Coach at Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont. His active participation in professional organizations includes serving on the Jefferson County Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors for three terms (2004, 2006, and 2012) and as a member of the Jefferson County Bar Association's Bar Journal Editorial Committee (2006-present), a board member of the Jefferson County Pro Bono Association (2010 to present), the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, and the Eastern District of Texas Local Rules Advisory Committee. Sparks' legal affiliations include the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Bar Association and the Inter-American Bar Association.

Sparks completed his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree cum laude at The University of Texas School of Law, where he was editor of the American Journal of Criminal law, and his undergraduate degree summa cum laude at Baylor University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 4.0.
