Provost Umphrey Receives Jefferson County Large Law Firm Pro Bono Award
BEAUMONT, TX, October 7, 2014 – Provost?Umphrey Law Firm, L.L.P. was recently awarded the Large Law Firm Award by the Jefferson County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Program. The award is based on the hours donated and the number of attorneys participating from each volunteering law firm. Eight Provost?Umphrey attorneys contributed over 80 hours of pro bono work.
“Doing pro bono legal work through the Jefferson County Pro Bono Program has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I am quite fortunate to work at Provost?Umphrey with lawyers who share that same commitment,” says Mark Sparks, a Provost?Umphrey attorney and the 2013 Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year.
The mission of the Jefferson County Bar Association (JCBA) Pro Bono Program is to provide legal assistance in civil matters to indigent and low-incomes applicants living in Jefferson, Orange, Liberty and Hardin counties. In 2013 alone, the estimated monetary value to the community through the program was $508,374. The JCBA also operates a Veterans Legal Initiative to assist veterans with their legal needs.
“The firm’s participation in the Jefferson County Bar Association Pro Bono Program is very vital to the program, to the legal community, and most of all, to the indigent residents who will benefit from their willingness to help,” says Cindy Torrans, the Pro Bono Coordinator for JCBA.
Provost?Umphrey will be recognized at the Celebrate Pro Bono Week Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Wednesday, October 23, 2014. Other Celebrate Pro Bono Week activities include an information table in the foyer of the courthouse on October 20 and 21, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and a Legal Line on October 23, 3014 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
