May 13, 2013 - BEAUMONT, TX: In support of LifeShare Blood Centers, Provost Umphrey Law Firm, L.L.P., recently hosted a Blood Drive at the firm's downtown Beaumont office.
During the blood drive, 21 generous individuals, including 19 Provost Umphrey staff members, gave the gift of life, donating their blood on LifeShare's mobile van. Since 1991, Provost Umphrey has hosted LifeShare blood drives two-three times each year, making a cumulative donation of 867 units of blood that has saved 2,601 lives.
"We rely on approximately 3,000 donors per month to provide blood to our local hospitals. Without businesses such as Provost Umphrey committing to host blood drives, this would be near impossible," said Carol Sims with LifeShare Blood Centers in Southeast Texas. "Being able to rely on Provost Umphrey to consistently host drives for us helps assure Southeast Texans that when the need arises, the blood will be there. The firm has literally saved thousands of lives over the years."
In the aftermath of the West Fertilizer Plant explosion, LifeShare is currently asking for additional blood donations as the organization continues its effort to assist with emergency needs in areas near West. As the need for additional surgeries for the victims arises, the need for blood donations will continue.
Sims said, "There is always a need for blood donations. With the recent tragedies, LifeShare was able to assist these communities with their needs."
Provost Umphrey is also working to aid victims of the tragedy by providing important information regarding the legal rights of those injured or affected by the West Fertilizer Plant explosion. A helpline is available at 888-588-1695.
Provost Umphrey's next blood drive is scheduled for August 7, 2013. "There is still no substitute for human blood. Without the continued support of volunteer blood donors, LifeShare Blood Centers cannot exist."
