We are looking for an Accountant to work closely with our Accounting Supervisor to assist in the oversight of the accounting department’s daily operations. This position will report to the Administrator.

You will work closely with a team of accounting clerks to help manage financial functions, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations and tax audits. Our ideal candidate uses strong analytical skills to create detailed financial reports and forecasts. To succeed in this role, you should also have a problem-solving attitude and be able to manage a team.

Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our financial management is accurate and effective.

Skills & Qualifications

Needs to be organized, motivated, team player, and eager to learn.

  • Proven work experience as an Accounting Supervisor
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Safe Harbour)
  • Strong computer skills, MS Excel and Access (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas)
  • Solid knowledge accounting principles
  • Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Team management skills
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • BS degree in Accounting
  • CPA preferred, but not required

  • Accounting System Backup including Review of Validations
  • Copitrak – Internal Charges
  • Client Trust Review and Trust Deposit Balancing
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield – Balance ADP Payroll with BCBS
  • ADP – Payroll Report and J/E
  • File Review Reports
  • Bank Loan Reconciliation
  • Monthly Invoice Download (AE, LN, Accurint, Pacer, File & Serve)

Job Duties

  • Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney.
  • Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; drafting complaints; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports.
  • Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress.
  • Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorney, clients, and providers.
  • Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences; preparing pleadings; monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; organizing materials for team case review.
  • Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed; taking courtroom notes.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Job Description

To be able to perform clerical tasks such as making copies of documents, distributing mail among other legal staff, moving files, mailing letters and answering the phone. At some firms, they also perform word processing tasks and data entry.

The legal runner needs a vehicle and a driver’s license, since these workers must travel to perform various errands. They must be well organized to keep track of legal documents and to operate efficiently. While legal runners often run errands, the amount of travel they do depends on the office they work for, since some legal offices are closer to other law firms and courthouses than others.
