  • Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney.
  • Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; drafting complaints; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports.
  • Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress.
  • Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorney, clients, and providers.
  • Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences; preparing pleadings; monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; organizing materials for team case review.
  • Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed; taking courtroom notes.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.

Job Description

To be able to perform clerical tasks such as making copies of documents, distributing mail among other legal staff, moving files, mailing letters and answering the phone. At some firms, they also perform word processing tasks and data entry.

The legal runner needs a vehicle and a driver’s license, since these workers must travel to perform various errands. They must be well organized to keep track of legal documents and to operate efficiently. While legal runners often run errands, the amount of travel they do depends on the office they work for, since some legal offices are closer to other law firms and courthouses than others. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Job Overview

  • Administer, support, and maintain multiple MS SQL databases to ensure their performance, availability, and security for the firm.
  • Administer, support, and maintain a Laserfiche document imaging platform built on a MS SQL foundation (Laserfiche training is provided).
  • Support legacy database integration with SQL and MS Access tables linked to MS Access front ends.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop expert knowledge of the Laserfiche document imaging system (Laserfiche training is provided) as well as the MS SQL back-end for Laserfiche.
  • Provide advice for Laserfiche and SQL database capacity and growth projections.
  • Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the MS SQL databases that support the various systems.
  • Understanding of linking SQL with legacy MS Access databases using ODBC connections.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving for MS SQL and MS Access front ends in a multi-user environment.
  • Proactively monitor the database systems to secure services with minimum downtime.
  • Responsible for providing trend and usage/capacity analysis to server management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management/allocation.
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.

Skills/Attributes

  • In-depth experience in Microsoft SQL Database Administration (SQL 2012 and later), as well as creating and maintaining MS Access tables, queries, forms and reports.
  • Ability to learn and master Laserfiche document imaging platform for the purpose of becoming the lead administrator of the in-house Laserfiche software system.
  • Understanding of VBS and SQL code is preferred.
