Provost Umphrey's Mike Hamilton Named a 2016 Mid-South Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters

Posted on Tuesday, November 8, 2016

For the third year in a row, Mike Hamilton has been named to the Mid-South Super Lawyer list by Thomson Reuters. Hamilton is located in Provost Umphrey's Nashville, Tennessee office. He joins the nine listed Texas Super Lawyers - Walter Umphrey*, Bryan Blevins, Jr., Darren Brown, Joe Fisher II, J. Keith Hyde, Matthew Matheny, D'Juana Parks, James Payne and David Wilson bringing the firm's total of listed lawyers to ten.

Hamilton's primary practice areas include Employee Benefits, Personal Injury - Products: Plaintiff and Civil Litigation: Plaintiff. Hamilton also represents whistleblowers in actions involving fraud on the government. Hamilton is currently representing a proposed class of advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants in a nationwide unpaid overtime lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs based on claims that many VA employees have been required to work off the clock for years.

Most recently, a judge denied a request for a new trial for a class action dispute in which Mike Hamilton achieved a $5.8 million verdict on behalf of Tyson Foods employees. In 2011, a federal jury ruled in favor of the employees with a $5.8 million verdict, which the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld in 2014. Tyson later challenged the verdict to the U.S. Supreme Court, and in March 2016, the court upheld the lower court ruling.

Selection to this widely respected listing is based on a patented process that includes peer nominations, research and a blue-ribbon review. No more than 5 percent of lawyers in the state are chosen each year.

Congratulations Mike!
