The American Journal of Nursing (AJN) is the oldest and most honored broad-based nursing journal in the world. Peer reviewed and evidence-based, it is considered the profession’s premier journal. The latest edition of the AJN was released in early February and in it was an interview with Provost Umphrey's Michael Hamilton regarding the ongoing lawsuit against the VA.
Provost Umphrey is leading a lawsuit on behalf of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) and other health care professionals employed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The lawsuit seeks overtime pay for VA nurses who say the VA has required them to perform extensive patient-related work after hours for no pay on their home computers or VA-supplied computers.
Hamilton is quoted as saying, "The facts are pretty simple. This is a big group of highly trained, hardworking people who should be paid for the work they are doing.”
