  • What made you want to become a lawyer? After college, I first taught junior high for nine years and high school students for four. During that time, I decided that I wanted to do something different that would pay more, so at night; I obtained an accounting degree from Lamar. After obtaining the hours needed, I then visited some accounting firms in Houston. All of the accountants were sitting in cubicles and all were dressed alike (dark suits, white shirts and red ties) and all looked pretty miserable. I decided that accounting wasn’t for me. So, I kept teaching in Port Neches and started law school at the University of Houston at night, thinking at least that the dress code and office space for an attorney surely would not be so onerous – so I guess more pay and the desire to avoid bad attire and work in really small cubicles is what ultimately made me want to be an attorney.
  • Why did you decide to focus on personal injury law? I had known Walter Umphrey for a few years before I began law school and I knew he represented the people and was a successful attorney.
  • What do you do for fun? For anyone that knows me, the answer is, “Cabo”. I also have two grandsons, Cael and Connor – who are a lot of fun – in small doses. My husband also is fun…at times.
  • Where did you grow up? Nederland
  • What is your favorite place in Southeast Texas? Austin – OK, technically, it’s more “west”, but it’s my favorite place.
  • What is your proudest moment? Having my son, my grandsons, two wonderful dogs, a great job, wonderful friends and co-workers, and staying married to my husband for 43 YEARS!
  • What is your favorite movie? Don’t have a favorite movie. Like to watch all types.
  • If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Don’t have a favorite food. Like to eat all types.
  • What goals do you have for yourself for the next five years? Probably “hang it up” and move to Austin at some point in the next five years, but who knows.
  • What is one destination in the world that is on your travel bucket list? We travel with Dave Wilson and Aaryn Giblin. I think we are pretty much completing Dave’s bucket list first.
  • What do you think sets Provost Umphrey apart from other law firms? I really believe this law firm cares deeply for its people – not only caring for all of us who work here, but also truly caring for the ones we represent. I also think that most of us have a pretty fun time working here, most of the time.
