Bryan O. Blevins, Jr. is an equity partner at Provost Umphrey. He has spent his entire professional career with Provost Umphrey Law Firm. Blevins serves as administrator, trial coordinator and litigator for the firm's asbestos department, including direct coordination of over 10,000 cases. Blevins was recently named 2016 Southeast Texas "Lawyer of the Year" for Product Liability Litigation by Best Lawyers in America®.

  • What made you want to become a lawyer? My fourth grade teacher on Friday afternoons would let us choose a game and one of those games was Prosecutor/Defender where we mocked trial. It became an approved outlet for my argumentative nature.
  • Why did you decide to focus on personal injury law? I knew that I wanted to try lawsuits but it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to clerk for several different law firms that I knew I wanted to come back to Beaumont and join Walter. He convinced me in the summer of 1989 that I would have the opportunity to try more lawsuits and more quickly than anywhere else or for anyone else. He was right.
  • What do you do for fun? Play golf, travel, read, watch movies and spend time with my family.
  • Where did you grow up? I grew up in Lufkin, Texas with the exception of my 8th, 9th and 10th grade years where we lived in Beaumont and got to know the Umphrey family. I was born, raised, educated and have spent my entire work life in Texas.
  • What is your favorite place in Southeast Texas? Our home – I have been blessed to have a home where our family and friends can gather, relax and spend time together.
  • What is your proudest moment? Professionally, it would be serving as President of Texas Trial Lawyers Association during the 2015 state legislative session. Personally, it would be the family Shelley and I have built over the last 15 years .
  • What is your favorite movie? I like movies so there isn’t just one. By genre: Sports – Rudy; War – We Were Soldiers; Action – Armageddon; Musical – Grease; Comedy – Couples Retreat; Drama – Last of the Mohicans; Young Adult – Pitch Perfect; Classic – Lawrence of Arabia and the list goes on.
  • If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? I am tempted to say COFFEE but my wife assures me that it is not a food group so I will go with red meat – steak, hamburger, BBQ – anything you can put on a grill.
  • What goals do you have for yourself for the next five years? Professionally, I have only one goal – to see Provost Umphrey thrive and Walter’s legacy preserved. Personally, to be less selfish and more of what my family, friends and church need.
  • What is one destination in the world that is on your travel bucket list? African Safari
  • What do you think sets Provost Umphrey apart from other law firms? There is a perception that Provost Umphrey only takes ‘big’ cases which is simply not true. What does set us apart is that we do have the resources and vision to take on big cases. There are lots of good lawyers but today’s litigation takes economic and human resources as well as the vision and commitment to take on the David vs. Goliath fights of our generation.
