Founded in 1969, Beaumont-based firm commemorates significant milestone

BEAUMONT, Texas – In 2019, nationally recognized trial firm Provost Umphrey celebrates 50 years of pursuing justice for individuals, families and businesses in the courtrooms of Texas and across the nation.

“We have been honored to call Beaumont home for the last 50 years and we’re privileged to represent honest people who need help,” said managing partner Joe J. Fisher II. “To be able to mark this milestone is a testament to our founders’ mission, our staff’s hard work and the local community, which has continued to embrace our firm. We look forward to the next 50 years of representing our community.”

Founded by the legendary Walter Umphrey in 1969, the firm’s mission remains to represent hard-working, wronged and injured people of Southeast Texas and across the nation. A team of 22 attorneys continues this legacy of righting wrongs and holding responsible parties accountable.

With a long history of involvement in notable cases and impressive verdict wins, the firm is perhaps best known for its lead role in the successful Texas litigation against the tobacco industry. Mr. Umphrey served as lead counsel for Texas, engineering a historic $15.3 billion settlement for the state.

Beyond its renowned reputation for winning major verdicts and settlements, Provost Umphrey has been a generous benefactor to Texas communities, contributing to these projects:

• Provost Umphrey Stadium, Lamar University, Beaumont
• The Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center at Baylor Law School
• The Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center also at Lamar University
• Walter Umphrey State Park on Pleasure Island in Port Arthur

In 2019, the firm plans to celebrate its first half-century by spotlighting some of its cases.

For 50 years, Provost Umphrey’s mission has remained to seek justice for those most in need – those who have suffered harm or loss due to the wrongful conduct of others. Our attorneys fight for our clients nationwide with offices in Beaumont and Houston, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee. We continue to be one of the most successful trial law firms in the nation by remaining Hard-Working Lawyers for Hard-Working People.
