October 12, 2013 BEAUMONT, TX - Twenty-seven Provost Umphrey employees joined hundreds of other Beaumont runners for the 2013 Ribbon 5K Run Color Rush. The event, sponsored by Gift of Life, is held to raise awareness and badly needed funds toward cancer research in the Southeast Texas area. Provost Umphrey Law Firm paid the entry fee for all the runners at the firm that wanted to participate.
"We support the Gift of Life color run for a number of reasons," says Provost Umphrey lawyer James Payne. "Gift of Life keeps its funding and services local to focus on the well being of Southeast Texans and the run goes through downtown, supporting local businesses, a strong downtown benefits everyone in Beaumont."
The Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program has funded more than 20,000 free mammograms and 7,000 free prostate cancer screenings, and has conducted 1,000 educational outreach encounters, reaching more than 120,000 individuals in Southeast Texas.
Most importantly, the program has helped extend the lives of more than 200 individuals who have been diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer, and provided access to treatment through its efforts.
